Saturday, July 14th:

Well… Day 1 of vacation has officially commenced as of 4:30 p.m. and we are happily/anxiously on our way to Colorado! The car is loaded down with a variety of fruit and snacks (including “the perfect” cookies), pillows and blankets are tucked in the back seat, and hopefully all the clothes and other amenities we need to survive for a week are packed in as well.

Here we are….leaving OKC! Next stop…somewhere in Kansas.

6:25: We made it into Kansas.

12:30 a.m. – we crossed into Colorado. Yes, our plan of staying the night in some unknown Kansas town was dismissed. We felt that we were still “good” to go further. So, here we go…into the wee hours of the night.

1:06 a.m. (Colorado time…2:06 for my Oklahoma friends) – Driving…still. Lil’ Man has now watched Finding Nemo and Curious George (Curious George twice)… I have driven….L has driven and is now currently driving. We are pretty tired, but being within a couple hours of our final destination…we press on. I hope there is a room available for us (since we are checking in earlier than our original reservation time) in that grand ole mountain inn (better known as Best Western).

Thank goodness for zesty salsa Wheat Thins, Twizzlers, RC, my books downloaded on my iPad and also for Luke Bryan (who has successfully kept me awake during my late night drive). I am very fortunate that of the FOUR stations our radio picked up…Luke was playing on one of them. I am also semi-grateful for the somewhat skeptical little rest stop we took advantage of a few minutes ago. I didn’t think my legs would remember their purpose after sitting for so long.

3:05 a.m. – We arrived in Winter Park. We finally find the Best Western…as luck would have it, BOOKED.

3:45 a.m. – We FINALLY found a place to stay after calling many places and receiving the same line “sorry, we are all booked”. Thank goodness for The Viking Lodge…yes, I said The Viking Lodge (a quaint ski lodge). A place to sleep never looked so good.

The room may have been a little teeny and a little old…but it was clean. The owners were very nice and let us have a later check out…thank goodness.

Well that is all I have for Day 1…I am beat! Time for this girl to turn in.
